CHS Needs You!

The Canadian Hemochromatosis Society is always looking for individuals who are willing to help increase hemochromatosis awareness.

Chapters

From sea to sea, individuals have volunteered to be the point person(s) in their region recruiting others to help spread awareness of hemochromatosis where opportunities exist, and providing leadership within their community. Chapters are now being formed across the country, and we are seeking new volunteers to fill roles of Regional Organizers, who will lead their local Chapter, and Local Volunteers, who will be part of a team that supports the activities of their local Chapter.

Presently there are established Chapters in cities across Canada that plan and run awareness-raising activities. Please see the column on the right for our list of current Chapters and Regional Organizers.

If you are interested in becoming the Regional Organizer for a new Chapter, or if you would like to plan awareness events in your area where there are currently no Chapters, we want to speak with you! Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at program@toomuchiron.ca.

If you would like to become a volunteer for an existing Chapter, please contact the Regional Organizer directly. Their contact information can be found in the column to the right.

Community-Based Opportunities

There are many ways you can volunteer in your community to help get the word out about hemochromatosis during Awareness Month, and year round:

• present at wellness fairs
• appear on local cable company community access shows
• volunteer at local hospitals and clinics
• accompany hospital grand rounds
• educate your local pharmacy
• provide CHS materials to libraries or community centres
• speak on hemochromatosis at service club speaker programs (e.g. Lions. Rotary)
• get involved with school volunteer programs
• enlist the help of a local celebrity whom you know has (or has a connection with) hemochromatosis
• speak to the health columnist for the local press
• volunteer at your local Canadian Blood Services clinic
