Blood donors needed after winter weather puts squeeze on blood collections

In addition to the ongoing need for blood, winter weather can present challenges for the blood system. Since late December, winter storms and poor weather conditions have forced the cancellation of a number of blood donor clinics across the country — making it even more important for Canadians to book and attend their blood donation appointments in February.

Canadian Blood Services has activated the Blood Signal, which means there is a need for more first-time and current blood donors to donate now. Throughout February, there are still 33,000 appointments available at blood donor clinics across the country where you can help save lives.

Visit www.blood.ca or call 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283) now to find a blood donor clinic near you and book an appointment for an upcoming clinic. There is a special need for more O and A negative donors.

Please remember to register your blood donations with the Canadian Hemochromatosis Society’s Partners for Life group to have your donation counted towards our goal of donating 400 units this year! When registering, use ID number CANA002257 (four letters, six numbers).
