Dear (MP/Senator name),

I am a constituent of yours from (where). I have been personally impacted by the most common genetic disorder in Canada – hemochromatosis.

Hemochromatosis affects thousands of Canadians, but sadly, it remains a little-known condition. People with hemochromatosis are at risk of absorbing too much dietary iron, which in turn can lead to iron overload.

If it goes undetected, iron overload can cause serious and even fatal diseases like diabetes, liver disease, and heart disease. Treatment is simple and almost always effective. That is why awareness is everything.

I am hoping you will take the time to attend a Parliamentary Reception for MPs and Senators that will take place on Wednesday, May 17th co-hosted by Senator David Wells and the Canadian Hemochromatosis Society — in honour of Hemochromatosis Awareness month.

The reception will be held in Room 256-S, The Banking Room, Centre Block, between 4:30 pm and 6:30pm. Please drop by and find out more about this disorder, its costs to Canadians, and to our health care system.

Sincerely yours,
