Penticton Canadian Blood Services Mobile Donor Centre May 13, 2019

Donate Blood

People often donate when tragedy strikes. But the need for blood is constant. Blood and blood products are a critical part of everyday medical care including major surgeries, medical procedures, cancer treatments and managing diseases and disorders. Across Canada, 17,000 units of blood are needed each week to serve hospital patients in need.

Did you know that people with hereditary hemochromatosis can donate their blood providing all other eligibility criteria are met? Check your eligibility here. Individuals with hemochromatosis can donate every 56 days for men and 84 days for women, which is the usual interval for whole blood donation at Canadian Blood Services.

If you are due for a phlebotomy and live near this mobile donor centre (address below), book your appointment with Canadian Blood Services for this date! Next, register with the Canadian Hemochromatosis Partners For Life Team using our Partner ID#CANA002257 to pool your donation with other hemochromatosis sufferers, and let it be known how much of a contribution our hemochromatosis community can make to save lives!

Sign up to Volunteer

Saving lives doesn’t need to end there. If you are able to volunteer as a Canadian Hemochromatosis Society Ambassador on this day, please let us know by signing up. As an Ambassador, you will increase awareness of hereditary hemochromatosis with blood donors resting in the refreshments area by informally chatting and providing them with information about the disorder. A perfect way to spend a few hours during May Awareness Month! You just might save another person’s life by making them aware of hemochromatosis.
